Asda Named Best National Retailer for World Foods

Asda has won an award for ‘Best National Retailer’ at the World
Foods Association awards for our wide range of ethnic foods, products
and clothing.

We beat Tesco and Sainsbury’s to win the award at the ceremony at
the Hilton, Park Lane, London on Saturday and the news came as we were
preparing to launch our first ever World Food Store at Asda Hounslow this week.

The World Food Awards 2009 is a new, national awards ceremony to
recognise the best operators in the world food sector in the United
Kingdom and Europe. The WFA represents
suppliers, retailers, and distributors to the ethnic foods market and
the inaugural ceremony was televised by Sony Entertainment Television
Asia, who helped organise the event.

The judges were particularly impressed by our range of fresh and
chilled produce for our Polish, Carribean, Asian and Mediterranean
customers, including our Halal meat and Polish deli concessions, as
well as our our our new range of Asian clothing at George.

There is already a Halal meat and a Polish deli counter at Asda
Hounslow and today the store is relaunched as our first ever World Food
store with a fifth of the store dedicated to specialist foods and
products for our Asian, Caribbean, Mediterranean and Polish customers.
There are celebrations planned at the store’s official launch tomorrow
so pop in if you’re in the area and let us know what you think.
