Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources speaks at the event

Bandar Seri Begawan – Despite the current adverse conditions due to
the global economic downturn and the Influenza A (H1N1) pandemic, the
Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources is going ahead with the
International Halal Product Expo which will be launched today, which
displays the ministry’s commitment and desire to advance the halal
agenda, nationally as well as internationally.

The Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Orang Kaya
Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya said this at the welcoming
dinner for the 4th International Halal Product Expo held at the Yayasan
Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah concourse area last night.

He also said, “More importantly, by your presence and participation
in this expo and conference, you too share in the belief of what halal
can bring to your business.

“Brunei Darussalam is an Islamic country. We recognise the potential
to benefit from this strong image to create value in the global halal
industry, which of late has emerged as a powerful force in the
international market trade. The confidence and trust in Brunei
Darussalam’s capability in this will certainly grow from strength to
strength,” the minister added.

He added that as the ministry is built on its stringent and
consistent ways in monitoring and certifying Halal products without any
compromise on the safety and quality of products, the ministry has all
the prerequisites to move forward in the right direction.

“Against this backdrop, we are eager to build partnerships with
others and welcome foreign investment to work with us in our
Ago-Technology Park which is currently being built for the
joint-ventures and foreign direct investment in the halal sector,” he
said.

Through such partnerships between the public and private sectors,
said the minister, the vast opportunities in the halal market industry
may be successfully explored, and that it will also serve as a platform
for local small and medium enterprises to penetrate the international
market.

The dinner was attended by the participants of the 4th International Halal Expo 2009.

Also present were the Deputy Minisiter of Industry and Primary
Resources, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamdillah bin Haji Abdul Wahab,
Deputy Minister of Health, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Lela Diraja Dato
Paduka Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, as well as other high
ranking officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the
Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.
