Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh, Provincial Minister Agriculture and Livestock, Justice Khalil ur Rehman, Chairman Halal Research and Development cell, Hamid Yakoob Shiekh, secretary Livestock and dairy department, Muhammad Zubair Mughal, CEO Halal Research Council, Dr. Tallat Naseer Pasha, Vice Chancellor, UVAS, Dr. Iqrar Ahmad, Vice Chancellor Agriculture University Faisalabad, Ishaq Latuconsina, Indonesian ambassador, Dr. Haja Sittie Shayma Zenaida Laidan, Regional Director Department, Ministry of Science and Technology – Philippine, Kavilash Chawla, Managing Director Nur Global Strategies, Chicago - U.S.A, Abdul Basit, Chairman Big Bird Group, Mohamad Yakob Bin Munshi Deen, Managing Director Halagel – Malaysia, P. Ahmad, Pak Qatar Takaful, S. Anjum Bashir Director General – Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC), Nissar Ahmad Ramtoola, President – Jummah Mosque – Mauritius were some of the prominent and featured personalities at the conference.

The conference was organized by Halal Research Council in collaboration with PAMCO and Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab in which research papers on various topics like export of Halal products from Pakistan, promotion of Pakistan’s Halal Industry internationally, International Halal Research & development and Certification, opportunities of promotion in the Global Halal Industry and the potential of Halal Industry in Punjab were presented. In that conference, the MoU was signed amongst Philippine and Mauritius for the sake of promoting the Pakistan Halal products. The main subject of the conference was the proposal from Justice Khalil ur Rehman for the formation of Halal Authority which was unanimously appreciated by all. Other accepted proposals include the Halal awareness Campaign, Research in the field of Halal and Halal Publications.

While addressing, the organizer of the conference, Muhammad Zubair Mughal, Chief Executive Officer, Halal Research Council said that Pakistan has every capability to become Halal Hub in comparison with any other country and the whole world is anticipating Pakistan as a Halal Hub which is becoming reality. He further added that a huge quantity of Halal Food, Halal Meat, Halal Cosmetics, Halal gelatin and Halal bones can be exported from Pakistan through which we can increase our exports hence can cover the trade deficit. In addition to this, he said that Halal Research Council will continue its journey in the field of Research, Development & Innovation and will arrange the international conferences in South Africa, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and UAE in the year 2012. whereas at national level, a road show from Khyber to Karachi would be arranged and 300 seminars on Halal awareness in 100 cities of Pakistan within one month would be conducted.

Saudi Arabia: Riyadh will hold their 1st Halal Food Control & Exhibition

For the first time the Halal Food Control and Exhibition will be hold at Ryadh. These conferences will be hold concurrently with the halal products exhibition. Important issues surrounding standardization certificate of halal will be one of the main agenda will be discussed.

Saudi Arabia will hold a Halal Food Control and Exhibition for the first time. International-scale event production will hold in 12-15 February 2012 in Ryadh. A number of researchers as well as the institutions associated halal certification from all over the world are expected to join. Including organisations and enterprises that produces halal products.

USA: AMCC Spotlights Growing Muslim Market

Savvy marketers are constantly working to stay leading edge — keeping a pulse on consumer trends such as shifting demographics, evolving purchase behaviors and assessing lifestyles and life stages to best identify how their brands can fit into a variety of consumers’ lives. One consumer group that is gaining more attention among multicultural marketing experts is American Muslim consumers.

This group, numbering between six and eight million in the U.S., represents billions in disposable spending power – yet is perhaps the most underserved market in America. The third annual American Muslim Consumer Conference (AMCC), which took place on Oct. 29 in New Brunswick, N.J., addressed the opportunity for companies to reach out to this growing group of consumers.

When marketed to effectively, Muslim consumers remarkably champion brands and provide consistent and continued results, as evidenced by several of the success stories shared during the conference about companies such as Saffron Road Foods and Whole Foods Market. USA: Midamar Director Jalel Aossey Speak on Keys to Success in the Halal Industry

USA: AMCC and the Halal consumer

Faisal Masood, an Indian American technology director working in New York, is not the typical consumer. He happens to be one of the approx. 3 million American Muslims who have a total spending power of $170 Billion per year. Thus, Masood who grew up in a small town in one of the poorest areas of India, used his more than 20 years of experience in sales, entrepreneurship and management consulting to create the American Muslim Consumer Conference in 2009.

That first year, barely 200 people attended the conference and they had no participation from any major company. But now 3 years later, the American Muslim Consumer Conference (AMCC) boasts well known mainstream companies such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Whole Foods, and Ogilvy, who are not only sponsors, but also speakers and delegates of the New Jersey based conference.

“I wanted to highlight the American Muslim consumer power and leverage to influence companies and businesses to develop products and services which can address the unique needs of American Muslims.” Says Masood, when asked why he started AMCC.

Recently Whole Foods featured a new halal food item (Saffron Road) in their stores which they promoted in Ramadan, so we know that American companies are definitely starting to reach out to American Muslim consumers, even though they received some flak from some right-wing Islamophobic elements in the U.S. Thus, it’s important for American Muslims to go out and support these companies who are trying to reach out to us.

For the future, Faisal wants to develop the AMCC platform into a consortium of companies who are either developing products for the American Muslim market or want to market their products to us.

“Once this consortium grows, it will be a sign reflecting the growth of American Muslim consumer buying power. It has to happen in steps, it has to be done organically and it has to happen now.” He said.

UAE: Global Halal food market valued at $2.77tr

DUBAI: Global Halal food market is valued at $2.77 trillion annually and it is expected to increase remarkably in years to come. This increase is the result of a fact that people around the world, Muslims and non-Muslims, prefer Halal food for various reasons.

In view of rapidly increasing demand of Halal food, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), an arm of Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), has provided a strong platform to the world by organising Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) every year.

The upcoming event, scheduled to be held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from April 4 to 7, 2012, is believed to attract greater number of exhibitors and visitors as compared to previous editions, as the world economies have overcome the harsher impact of recession.

Said to be the world’s largest Halal trade fair, MIHAS 2012 will showcase Halal products including beverages, food, herbal, body care items, pharmaceuticals, toiletries, cosmetics, packaging, banking and insurance etc.

At a press event, held at a local hotel on Wednesday, Ahmed Fadil Shamsuddin, Consul General of Malaysia, delivered his opening speech and highlighted the importance of the upcoming show. He said the number of exhibitors and visitors is expected to rise, as countries which had not participated in the previous show for some reasons, have also confirmed their participation in MIHAS 2012.

He said, MIHAS is designed not only to bring together the world’s largest display of Halal goods, products and services under on roof, it is also aimed at showcasing the strength and potential of global networking amongst businesses. The show provides an opportunity to expand business by exploring new business markets in the world.

Mohammed Aminuddinuddin Sham Tajudin, Director Processed Food, Biotech and Halal Trade & Services Promotion Divisiion, Malaysia, gave a presentation on upcoming event and also informed the achievements of MIHAS during previous editions.

Speaking on the occasion and responding to the media queries, Mohammed Shukri Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of the show, said, “Malaysia enjoys a mentionable share in the global Halal food market.”

To a question: “Non-Muslim countries are also participating in the show, how the Halal condition is applicable on them?” he said, it is mendatory for participating countries and companies get Halal Certification from Malaysia, which means products meet the required standards for Halal goods.”

Answering another question about non-food items like perfumes and soaps which contain substances that Muslims don’t use, he said, it is ensured that such products should be made using Halal substances.”

International Halal Congress Opened in Turkey

The 1st International Halal Congress opened in Ankara with the participation of more than 16 countries.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) – Participants to the Congress were members of their respective countries’ chambers of commerce, as well as international manufacturers, academics and food experts.

The topics of the Congress included: Halal products (food stuffs, raw goods, necessity food stuffs, laboratories, standardization of documents, accreditation etc.), Halal medicines, Halal cosmetics and other hygienic products, Halal services (collective food services, hotels, restaurants and tourism sector, banking, transport and collective vehicles)

This ground-breaking International Congress was organized by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Islamic Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Statistical Economic and Social Research and Training Center (SESRIC) and the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Mines.

Muslims account for one fifth of the world’s population and halal products affect the daily lives of 1.4 billion Muslims across the globe.
