The World Halal Forum, now in its 6th year, is the world’s most sought after premier Halal industry event and has a proven track record as a crucial platform that plays a major role in determining the direction of the global Halal industry.

With the exponential growth of Europe’s Muslim population in recent years, thousands of tons of religiously slaughtered halal meat is now entering the general food chain, where it is being unwittingly consumed by the non-Muslim population.
New move would require halal and kosher meat producers to state on their packaging that animals were not stunned before slaughter, as required by EU rules, a move that has angered the Jewish and Muslim communities.
Amendment 205, which proposed that meat from non-stunned Kosher and Halal slaughter be labelled in a negative manner was omitted by the EU legislators at their recent council meeting on labelling on 6th December 2010.
The version of the regulation that the Council has sent back to the European Parliament for their consideration does not include Amendment 205 the clause which would have required that all meat and meat products slaughtered by the shechita/Halal method be pejoratively labeled.
Shechita UK has welcomed the outcome of Tuesday’s European Council meeting, where a new draft of the food information regulation was agreed. The version of the regulation that the Council has sent back to the European Parliament for their consideration does not include Amendment 205 the clause which would have required that all meat and meat products slaughtered by the shechita method be pejoratively labeled.
The Forum team brought a distinguished array of speakers and panelists who illuminated the promise and some of the pitfalls of the Halal industries. Halal industries represented were food, finance, cosmetics and personal care products, pharmaceuticals, travel, and logistics. The speakers gave plenty of information for the attendees to weigh, and experts in the audience also contributed to the panel sessions.
The World Halal Forum Europe, UK’s first major halal industry event to date, has, at its second meeting in Europe, sent a strong message to manufacturers and retail chains on the need to respect Muslim consumers in a growing halal market.
The International Halal Integrity Alliance (IHI), The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), The American Halal Association (AHA) and the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) signed an agreement to collaborate on issues relating to Halal Standards development and the formation of a network of national Halal Accreditation bodies to ensure Halal integrity throughout the supply chain at the recent WHF Europe in London.
How is the European halal market developing? It was with this question in mind that an invitation was extended by the World Halal Forum Europe to a two day forum in London about the future of the European halal market.
The forum, UK’s first major halal industry event to date, was set amidst controversial debates on Halal currently taking place in the UK. It was timely as it offered a highly focused platform for industry players, decision makers, and scholars alike to gather under one roof to discuss and deliberate issues and opportunities unique to the European sector and draw their own resolutions.
