The Australian meat & livestock industry

THE World Society
for the Protection of Animals has condemned the Federal Government for
allowing the ritual slaughter of conscious animals for halal and kosher
meat to continue in Australian abattoirs.
Australia’s largest sheepmeat processor — and largest halal
sheepmeat exporter in the world — said most of the industry opposed
religious ritual slaughter on conscious animals.
Scientific reports into the use – or lack thereof – of stunning
equipment prior to livestock slaughter due to religious beliefs will be
released by State and Federal Governments.
