Within the EU there are 16 million Muslims and throughout all of Europe approximately 54 million. Even though not all Muslims interpret the halal requirements in the same way and not all Muslims follow these rules strictly, the significance of the halal market is obvious.
Jim Paice, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food attended the Anuga food show in Germany on Monday to support EBLEX’s export drive. He was accompanied by Peter Hardwick of EBLEX and visited all the export stands at the show, with half the export stands promoting Halal Meat. The personal visit of the Minister Jim Paice has created the possibility of opening up a £1bn export potential for Halal meat into the Middle East.
The offer of halal foods in German supermarkets is scarce and many of them are reluctant to widen their range of food that meets the requirements of practicing Muslims, even though the demand is increasing and the potential for future sales promising.
Serving as a gateway to the Middle East is Module C in Terminal 1, where airlines such as Emirates, Etihad Airways and Oman Air offer flights to major centers in the region. In addition to signage in German, English and Arabic, the food services in departure area feature halal menu selections.
How is the European halal market developing? It was with this question in mind that an invitation was extended by the World Halal Forum Europe to a two day forum in London about the future of the European halal market.

Interest
is growing among companies that want to offer products for the Muslim
market because trade in halal products is growing not only in Germany
and Europe but worldwide, with Muslims projected to be 30 per cent of
the world population by 2025. The
largest halal markets are in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Middle East. In Europe, Germany, France and Britain are the largest.
Brunei: A
GERMAN shop owned by Imad and Anne Aljandali is the first to introduce
a range of food products from all over Germany into the local market.
The owners, who are both of German origin, stated that the products
are 100 per cent halal and if customers have any queries or doubts
about the products, they would be glad to help and explain the
ingredients or contents.

products carrying the Halal designation, Klüber has the largest number
of lubricant choices for food processing equipment in the world.

product groups, a trend that also can be served by European suppliers,
of course. Due to the fact that especially Muslim communities are
growing in numbers, a further growth of the demand for Halal Food is
one of the fastest and effective growing food sectors in the world and
will remain so for many years. With the first “Global Halal Conference”
at Anuga featuring the participation of experts from all over the
world, we want to emphasize and highlight this aspect.
