The German market is showing signs of a boom for such products. While in the past, “halal” was associated with preconceived notions of Islam, the term is gaining wide acceptance, even amongst Germans.
SYARIKAT Aliaa Sdn Bhd is looking to introduce more imported products to Brunei from Europe, such as the Lorenz snack food brand and halal cosmetics from Germany’s Dr Scheller Cosmetics AG, said Eddie Lu, Syarikat Aliaa manager, at the launch yesterday of a line of halal toothpaste, Durodont, from Dr Scheller Cosmetics AG.

Interest
is growing among companies that want to offer products for the Muslim
market because trade in halal products is growing not only in Germany
and Europe but worldwide, with Muslims projected to be 30 per cent of
the world population by 2025. The
largest halal markets are in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Middle East. In Europe, Germany, France and Britain are the largest.
Brunei: A
GERMAN shop owned by Imad and Anne Aljandali is the first to introduce
a range of food products from all over Germany into the local market.
The owners, who are both of German origin, stated that the products
are 100 per cent halal and if customers have any queries or doubts
about the products, they would be glad to help and explain the
ingredients or contents.

With the growing Muslim population?in Germany, there is also a growing demand for products that are halal?certified. Indeed, German and European suppliers are increasingly flooding?the German market with halal products, as is evident, for example, with ?the proliferating stocks of halal products that are visible in the ?shelves of German supermarkets.

Halal frozen food group Mekkafood has said that it will open a production facility this month. The company is opening a 3500 sq metre factory in the Dutch town of Venlo, Mekkafood said.
