PETALING JAYA, 02 December 2009 – Firefly, the
country’s first community airline, today finalised its collaboration with
IISTHAL 2009 as Official Airline, giving the opportunity to trade visitors and
members of the public who attend the 3-day exhibition to win the following
flight tickets
:

1.

6x return tickets to Singapore

2.

4x return tickets to Medan

3.

2x return tickets to Samui

The International Islamic
Tourism & Halal Week (IISTHAL), themed Showcasing Islamic Wonders, has
received encouraging response from industry players with a lot of interest from
members of the public, according to a statement from the organizers.

Datin Hasnah Abdul Rahman,
Chief Executive of GITC Secretariat, co-organiser of IISTHAL, said this
three-day event will promote and enhance the public’s knowledge about Islamic
tourism and halal networking.

IISTHAL
comprises two main international conferences and exhibitions, namely the 2nd
Global Islamic Tourism Conference & Exhibition 2009 (GITC 2009) and the 2nd
National Halal Conference & Exhibition 2009. In addition, the Global
Islamic Food Festival (GIFF) and Malaysian Halal Excellence Awards are two
sub-events during the week that are expected to draw much interest from
industry players and the public.

Both these
two conferences and exhibitions are jointly organized by GITC Secretariat Sdn
Bhd and Khaaz International Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Persatuan Perdagang
dan Pengusaha Melayu Malaysia (PERDASAMA). This event is also coordinated and
facilitated by the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) and supported by Tourism
Malaysia.

Besides the 2nd
Global Islamic Tourism Conference & Exhibition 2009 (GITC 2009) and the 2nd
National Halal Conference & Exhibition 2009 (NHCE 2009), there will be a
special event – the Global Islamic Food Festival (GIFF).  The Conference will be held on the 8
and 9 December for industry professionals, while the other two events will run
concurrently for three days at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre.

Asked about the uniqueness
of the food festival Datin Hasnah said it is something that came about during
discussions after last year’s GITC. Based on previous deliberations, it was
opined that Islamic Tourism cannot be a single entity without addressing the
issue halal cuisine. Thus the conference will cover certain issues on this
pertinent subject.

Regarding the Firefly collaboration, Datin Hasnah, said that she met up
with representatives of Firefly at the World Trade Mart in London recently, and
added that IISTHAL is very happy with the collaboration in making IISTHAL 2009
another milestone event in developing Islamic Tourism and Halal Infrastructure.

According to Firefly Head of Marketing and Communications, Angelina
Fernandez,
“It is a privilege for us to work with IISTHAL as we
share the same aspirations, ie in making this growing Islamic Tourism market an
entity that will increase the number of travellers, both inbound and outbound,
when greater awareness is created.

“Previously, when we hear of Islamic Tourism, we only connect it with
tourists from the Middle East. Today, with events such as IISTHAL, we are now
given the opportunity to showcase Islamic-based countries as a viable
destination for non-Muslim travellers while Muslim travellers will have a peace
of mind when they travel to non-Muslim countries. This certainly bodes well for
tourism development.”

According to Datin Hasnah, apart from air tickets, visitors will have a
chance to win plenty of attractive prizes and vouchers.
The
Exhibition is open to the public for the three days from 10am – 6pm and
entrance is free.  More information
