Halal Analysis Laboratory for UPM in 2010

The Economic Planning
Unit of Prime Minister’s Department will provide assistance for Halal
Products and Research Institute of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to
build a Halal Analysis Laboratory during the first quarter of 2010.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Senator Major-General (B)
Dato’ Jamil Khir Baharom said the move was timely as it aligned with
the country’s vision to become the world leader in halal analysis and
halal products authentication.

Earlier on, Deputy Vice Chacellor of UPM (Research and Innovation),
Prof. Dato’ Dr. Abu Bakar Salleh said the symposium also placed
centre-stage the academic experts as well as industries that are
involved with halal services.

In addition, Director of Halal Products and Research Institute, Prof.
Dr. Yaakob Che Man said the symposium is regarded as a working
strategic plan as well as an international economic collaboration from
the initiatives of country leaders such as Indonesia, Malaysia dan
Thailand (IMT).

“The symposium is aimed to fulfill the economy and integration of ASEAN
countries in increasing investments and trade through the boost-up of
halal products export around the world,” he said.

He also mentioned that the 123 participants from Malaysia, Indonesia
and Thailand are made up of researchers, policy makers, the
authorities, respective industry and students that are involved with
halal industry.

A number of 15 working papers being presented and 37 posters were put
up fro exhibition namely, Shariah and Current Issues, Policy and
Management, Analysis and Authentication and Product and Process
Innovation.
