ILIA Get A Taste Of Leadership

Bandar Seri Begawan – Some 31 senior executive officers of the
public service involved in the Middle Management Officers 2009 (Middle
EDP) Programme took part in an educational tour of BMC Food Industries’
production site in Junjongan Light Industrial Park, Mukim Pangkalan
Batu, and yesterday to learn more of how the company is preparing to
enter the realm of international business.

The Middle EDP programme is intended to introduce medium-level
executives to the core issues involved in national development, public
policy and public governance, as well as core leadership and management
skills, while providing them with a pragmatic approach in EDP training.

The course is conducted under Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s (UBD) Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Advancement (ILIA).

The visit was hoped to give the participants a better understanding of the inner workings of the production process used by BMC.

The participants were briefed by Factory Manager Tan Too Yeo, who
delivered a slideshow presentation on the company’s history, policies,
objectives, vision, mission, operations, performance, achievements,
milestone and future plans.

Following the briefing, the participants were given a tour of the
processing and production site before viewing the exhibits set up to
offer a sample of BMC products.

Tan explained to the group that the company is presently working on
the paperwork required for them to start exporting their products to
neighbouring countries. “Our mission is to bring our products and
ensure that they are competitive in the international market,” he said.

We also want to promote Brunei Halal products to the international
market,” said Tan, adding that this was in line with the Sultanate’s
policy of diversifying its economy from the oil and gas industry.

Tan explained that apart from the above-mentioned objectives, BMC
aims to help Brunei achieve self-sufficiency supply in processed meat
products and help to develop and expand the Sultanate’s downstream
agriculture products.

“We want to produce Brunei’s own high-quality processed rood
products, on par with those in Western countries, and to transform BMC
Food Industries into a major player in food producing companies
nationally and internationally,” he said.– Courtesy of The Brunei Times
