Malaysia And Tajikistan To Boost Trade In Five Areas

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 (Bernama) — Trade between Malaysia
and Tajikistan is set to grow in five key areas once The Exporters Club
of Malaysia and TM International Tajikistan sign an agreement on Jan 15.

The agreement will facilitate the sourcing of Malaysian products
and services, Malaysian-Tajikistan joint-ventures in construction
projects and cooperation with Malaysian companies in the development of
education, Islamic banking, airport management, halal development and
Islamic tourism.

The agreement will be signed during the visit of a 21-member
Tajikistan trade delegation to Malaysia between Jan 14 and Jan 25, 2010.

Members of the delegation would explore opportunities to buy
Malaysian furniture, electrical home appliances, air-conditioners and
other consumer products, the Chief Executive Officer of Exporters Club,
Abdul Kabur Ibrahim said in a statement Monday.

Meanwhile, the General Director of TM International Tajikistan
Abdurazzok Abdulloev said Tajikistan has great hydropower potential and
wanted to attract investment for projects for internal use and
electricity exports.

“The government had attracted state-led investment for major
infrastructure projects, rather than implement the necessary economic
reforms to attract private investors,” he said.

Total exports to Tajikistan stood at US$ 1.6 billion which covered
aluminum, electricity, cotton, gold, fruits, vegetable oil and textile.

Meanwhile, Tajikistan imported petroleum products, aluminum oxide, machinery and equipment, and foodstuffs.

Tajikistan’s main partners for both import and export was Russia, China and Uzbekistan.

The Exporters Club was established in 2000 to provide support services to Malaysian exporters.
