Malaysia: International Halal Industry Trade and Advisory Centre Project

imagesKUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Xinhuanet) — Malaysia’s Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) recently held a seminar on International Halal Industry Trade and Advisory Centre Project in Kuala Lumpur.

Participants exchanged views and ideas about the establishment and development of the project, which is expected to be inaugurated before November 2014.

The project was initiated by SM International Wholesale (China) Centre Sdn Bhd (SMITC), the general operator of Malaysia’s Port Klang International Trade and Halal Industry Development Center Project, the world’s largest transit hub of halal products launched last June. The HDC and Malaysia Port Klang Free Zone have given joint impetus to it.

Malaysian International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed has been concerned with preparations for the establishment of the center and set up a special working group to propel the project, according to an HDC leading official.

The HDC leading official said at the seminar that he hoped the trade-and-advisory center could better serve international Muslim businessmen as their platform to carry out industry exchange.

He revealed that many Muslim businessmen from Japan, Korea and Middle East countries are also very concerned about the establishment of the center. He added he hoped that the center would push the halal industry in Malaysia onto the global stage to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

SMITC president Xia Baowen said he hoped the Muslim businessmen from around the world including China could gain successful experience from Malaysia–a country with fully-grown halal industry–to push forward the industry development in China and Malaysia and to promote exchanges between the two countries.

Xia said he hoped that an earlier inauguration of the center could be achieved by joint efforts of HDC, SMITC and the free zone for the sake of better serving the Malaysia’s Port Klang Free Zone International Trade and Halal Industry Development Centre Project.
