Malaysia: Jakim Ready To Activate Halal Research Centre

malaysia-flagSERI KEMBANGAN — The Islamic Development Department is ready to conduct halal research in Enstek, Sepang with a development value of RM23 million, said its Deputy Director-General (Policy), Mohamad Nordin Ibrahim.

He said the research centre would complement other research centres in providing assistance to industry players on the halal status of their products before they are marketed.

This is in line with efforts to ensure that halal certificates issued by Jakim is in accordance with specifications and cleanliness set by Jakim, he said after the launch of the Halal Fiesta Malaysia (Halfest) 2014 here yesterday.

The research centre, which is expected to be operational in January 2015, culminates a strategic cooperation between Jakim and Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd in the quest to turn Malaysia into a global halal research centre.

Mohamad Nordin said Jakim has produced 3,475 halal certificates to companies, mostly small and medium enterprises, in the first eight months of this year.
