MIHAS-logo-125The Malaysian International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2014) has raked in RM400 million in sales in the first three days of the exhibition.

Malaysia External Trade and Development Corporation (Matrade) Food, Biotech and Halal Trade and Services Promotion Division Director, Mohd Aminuddin Sham Tajudin, said: “We hope to be able to achieve the RM500 million target with the addition of sales done today,” he told reporters on the sidelines of MIHAS 2014 which ended Saturday.

It was reported that the MIHAS 2014 projected sales worth RM500 million this year compared to RM411 million recorded in 2013.

The higher target is driven by a better outlook in the global economy, higher demand for halal products and services and increased number of booths available in this edition.

Mohd Aminuddin also said MIHAS 2014 managed to attract the participation from 26 countries, including the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) countries, Belgium and Chile.

“Some of them are joining the for the first time and some are repeat participants,” he said.

MIHAS 2014, he said, attracted 14,500 visitors in the first three days of the exhibition compared to 10,400 visitors in the same period last year.

“We expect more from the general public to visit the exhibition today as it is the last day and it will contribute to the total visitors volume,” he said.

MIHAS 2014, held from April 9-12, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, is organised by Matrade and is aimed at facilitating the sourcing and selling of quality halal products and services globally.

The exhibition is held in conjunction with the “World Halal Week” themed “Energising Halal Business Growth” and the World Halal Conference, organised by the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC).
