Malaysia: MIHAS Organiser Seeks Foreign Venture Funds For Local SMEs

MIHAS-logo-125KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (Bernama) — Shapers Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the organiser of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) and Halal Fiesta Malaysia (Halfest), will be working with foreign venture capital companies to inject funds into local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), says Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdullah.

He said the SMEs will be selected at the upcoming Halfest to be held in October in Kuala Lumpur.

“We will be working with companies from Hong Kong, Taiwan and the United States to invest in local companies that are export-ready, and at the same time they will have a stake in those companies,” he told reporters at a briefing on the World Halal Summit 2015 here Friday.

While Halfest is a platform for local companies to showcase halal-certified goods and services, MIHAS aims to facilitate the sourcing and selling of quality halal products and services globally.

On the MIHAS 2015 being held from April 1 to 4 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Mohd Shukri said the organiser has repositioned and rebranded the annual event, breaking it up into programmes for certifiers, academics and businesses.

“We want to engage the minds of the world’s halal community to come here and understand what we are doing,” he said, adding the company will add new segments next year including halal tourism.
