Malaysia: World Halal Research Summit

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 (Bernama) — The World Halal Research Summit 2011, organised by the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on April 6-7, is expected to draw 1,000 participants.

The two-day summit will explore the theme “Catalyst for Growth in the Halal Industry”.

“The catalysing theme will see us through to the next level of growth and development where we intend to harness the right energy, passion and resources for making the halal industry resilient, vibrant and lucrative,” HDC chief executive officer Datuk Seri Jamil Bidin said in a statement today.

Thirteen renowned speakers will address issues and challenges covering all aspects of the halal industry which today serves the growing halal interests of some 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide in a market worth US$2.3 trillion.

Among them are Prof Dr Sharifah Bee O.A. Abd Hamid from Universiti Malaya”s Chemistry Department, Prof Dr Anthony J. Sinskey from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Paul Bereton who is coordinator of the UK”s Central Science Laboratory and Ulrich Weigi who is trade directorate general from the European Commission.
