More Than RM2.2 Bln in Sales expected at MIHAS 2009

KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 (Bernama) — Malaysia External Trade Development
Corporation (Matrade) aims to surpass last year’s record sales of RM2.2
billion generated from its Incoming Buying Mission (IBM) programme at
the sixth Malaysia International Halal Showcase 2009 (MIHAS 2009).

The MIHAS 2009 will be held from May 6 to 10 at the Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

Matrade chief executive officer, Datuk Noharuddin Nordin, said the
IBM programme would offer opportunities for buyers and sellers in the
halal market to establish new business alliances.

“More than 500 buyers from over 30 countries will participate in
this year’s Business Matching programme,” he said during a media
conference today.

Noharuddin said MIHAS is rapidly becoming the world’s premier
showcase of halal products and services, attracting more than 600
participants both from Malaysia and foreign countries.

“To date, MIHAS 2009 has received up to 80 percent booking from local and foreign exhibitors,” Noharuddin said.

Todate companies from various countries including Brunei, Egypt,
India, Iran, Serbia, US and Turkey have confirmed their participation.

Japan and Tunisia will also be participating for the first time to promote their halal products.

In conjunction with MIHAS 2009, Noharuddin said the Halal Industry
Development Corporation (HDC) will be organising the “The World Halal
Research 2009” conference from May 7 to 8.

The international conference is aimed at providing a platform for
scientists, researchers, scholars and academicians to discuss and
exchange ideas on new research findings, emerging technologies, trends,
issues, and challenges in the global halal industry.
