Oman: Wide range of trade opportunities explored with Malaysia

MUSCAT — Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Dato Mustafa Mohammed, Minister of International Trade and Industry in Malaysia, discussed means of enhancing relations between the two countries in the economic and trade relations.

Al Sunaidy briefed the Malaysian guest, who is accompanies by a business delegation, about the key infrastructure projects being implemented in Duqm, Sohar Port, Salalah Port and their expansions, as well as Muscat about International Airport and the Exhibition and Conferences Centre.

Al Sunaidy also familiarised the guest with the projects that attract the foreign investments in the fields of modern transportation, such as railway project that will link the Northern, Southern and Middle parts of the Sultanate to continue through the Al Buraimi Governorate.

Al Sunaidy also discussed with the Malaysian guest the potential of setting up a business umbrella to identify the Malaysian experience and benefiting from it to set up the small and medium enterprises by sending a number of Omani cadres for training and studying Malaysian experience in this field, in addition to touching on co-operation in the field of information technology.

Al Sunaidy welcomed the Malaysian investments, particularly in the field of food through coming up with a Memorandum of Understanding between the Public Establishments for Industrial Estates and the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority to promote the “Halal” food industry.

Meanwhile, Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, too received the Malaysian guests. The meeting discussed means of enhancing relations between the two countries in transport and communications fields and benefiting from experiences of both countries in this field. — ONA
