UK: Caterlink suspends meat to specific schools

Caterlink has suspended halal meat supply to specific schools.

Certain secondary schools are supplied by company. Those schools included, Blakewater College, Witton Park High School and Pleckgate High School in Blackburn.

The company told us, “Further to a request by schools and the Local Authority a review is being conducted by the Local Education Partnership (LEP) into the provision of halal meat to determine whether its supply chain can provide halal meat that is approved by the Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC) in line with the requirements of the Lancashire Council of Mosques.

“Previously the schools’ menus included meat that was approved by the HFA halal accreditation bodies.

“Until the review is concluded the menu will include vegetarian and non-meat options that meet our strict nutritional requirements for school meals.”
