UK: Nando’s halal call

A PETITION has been set up to add halal meat to the menu at the new Nando’s restaurant in Peterborough city centre.

It was created by resident Mohammed Haleem, who said: “The company has been contacted and states it currently has no plans to make the Peterborough branch halal.

“I, with others, find this unacceptable as Peterborough is a diverse city and does have a large Muslim population.”

Nando’s has 54 branches which do serve halal meat.

A Nando’s spokeswoman said: “Nando’s welcomes everyone into our restaurants, regardless of their beliefs.

“When deciding which restaurants serve halal, we have a range of various business criteria that has to be met.”

The petition is on www.petitiononline.co.uk.
