Nestlé investing RM320mil this year

Nestlé managing director Sullivan O’Carrol said a growth area for Nestlé was the export of halal products to Europe. “We started exporting halal products to Europe about a year ago and the uptake has been encouraging,” he said. He added that there was a growing Muslim population in countries such as the Netherlands and Germany.

O’Carrol
said Nestle’s tie-up with established hypermarkets such as Tesco,
Carrefour and Giant would help ensure its products were well
distributed and accessible to consumers globally.

Food and Drug Administration announced it has officially delayed for 60
days the 2008 BSE final rule prohibiting the use of certain cattle
materials in feed for all animals. The effective date is pushed back to
June 26 from April 27.

said Monday it has begun implementing a third-party video auditing
program to bolster the company’s animal welfare protection systems and
will have the program in place at all of its U.S. beef slaughter plants

South Carolina firm recalls meat and poultry products

York, S.C.-based Halal International Processing is recalling nearly
2,925 pounds of beef, chicken, goat and lamb products that were
mislabeled, according to USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.




Not only are these products mislabeled according to USDA, but they also have on the label that they are from a company called ‘Halal International’ but there is no Halal certification on the products. This is a case for needing a regulatory body for Halal foods in the US.
