‘Halal’ cuisine to attract Muslim tourists to Philippines

Making halal cuisine readily available in
tourist destinations will encourage more tourists from Muslim countries
to visit the Philippines. This is according to officials of the Department of Tourism (DOT),
who on Tuesday stressed the need to intensify the promotion and
availability of halal food.

This view is becoming more widespread as many countries around the world look to increase their share of Muslim tourists. The development of this Halal-related travel sector is likely to be one of the key growth areas in the travel and hospitality sector.

NZ fights Indonesian Halal beef ban

The saga of the Indonesian ban on NZ Halal beef exports continues, with NZ officials travelling to Jakarta to contest the ban. This is similar to the Malaysian ban a few years ago, in that it was announced with no forewarning…but for different reasons. While the Malaysian ban was based on concerns about thoracic sticking, this ban is to do with labeling, confirming our statement a while back that labeling is likely to be a more pressing issue for Halal producers than the illusive Halal standard issue.

Indonesia bans New Zealand beef imports

Indonesia has temporarily
banned imports of beef products from New Zealand due to halal
certification issues, a senior agriculture ministry official
said on Tuesday.

We will find more and more emphasis being put on labelling in the Muslim countries who are importing their Halal products. Halal exporters will have to keep on their toes. This has already become law in the UAE as well, but with Arabic as the second language on the label.

Islamic Relief Worldwide Appoints Hadhari Cattle For Deboning Sacrificial Meat

Islamic Relief Worldwide, the implementing agency
appointed for distribution of sacrificial meat appointed by the
Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank (IDB), has named a local company
– Hadhari Cattle Industry Sdn Bhd (Hadhari Cattle) – to debone
slaughtered sheep.

This is a good example of a sharp entrepreneurial initiative from Hadhari’s deputy President Dr Abdul Rashid Tan. It makes you reflect on what might happen if more of Malaysia’s Chinese community accepted Islam…maybe the ‘Halal Hub’ dream might be a bit more realistic.

Philippines is working on Halal in their country in many different ways and traveling to increase their awareness of how the Halal market is developing as this article shows. I would recommend their next stop be the International Halal Market Conference being held in Brunei 16-17 August for yet another way of looking at this developing market.
With speakers like Mr Rohit Talwar speaking on The Future of Islamic Tourism & the Halal Hospitality Business, and Mr Saleh Lootah of Al Islami Foods, Dubai, talking about branding Halal, how can anyone involved in Halal business afford to miss it!

Effective strategies to capture $1.2T global halal market

FOOD producers and exporters were advised to
implement correct marketing strategies in order to capture a share of
the huge global halal trade estimated between $580 billion to $1.2
trillion at a recent National Halal Conference in the Philippines.
To effectively capture the halal markets, they were told they must understand the Muslim consumers’ religious
needs and behavior, food purchase and consumption pattern.

This shows once again the Halal consumer has the potential to influence the way this market moves. Halal Consumers need to know they have a say in the quality and quantity of Halal products on the shelf.

Brunei’s Road to Diversification

Blogs are key to keeping people up to speed with public opinion and Brunei is no different with its drive for Halal Branding and certification. We hope the question this woman on her blog is asking  about ‘Halal branding’ in Brunei will be answered or addressed at the International Halal Market Conference being held in Brunei on the 16-17 August.

Governments must be sure the vision they are planning in a conference room is also presented clearly to their citizens who they hope are going to benefit from it. This also applies to Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, etc. We hope that this woman and more like her come to the IHMC to assist Brunei’s vision for a new Halal economy to be realised.
