Halal, Kosher Slaughter Unacceptable, say German Vets

Muslim and Jewish groups are angered by a call from Germany’s federal
chamber of veterinarians for a law re-establishing protection against
slaughter without stunning. Both Islam and Judaism reject the stunning of animals before
slaughter and prescribe that animals be killed by a swift throat cut.

EU proposal threatens halal foods

This is a must-read. The proposed reversal of the animal by-product ban for animal feeds is a clear example of putting the health of the economy over the health of the people. Not only is this of concern to the Muslims – none of us want to eat carnivorous cows – but this is of concern to everyone, and it is an issue in which the Muslims should take on on everyones behalf, not just for the Ummah.

This is for a matter for Bani Adam, so let the Muslims play an appropriate role. “Oh Mankind, eat what is lawful and wholesome on the earth…”

Halal hampers company starts a small revolution

We know there is potential for so many people to get involved in the Halal industry in ways that people would never think, and seeing a small start up Halal business like this with an original idea for Halal proves it. Having a Halal Hamper gift idea is also a solution for non-muslims who want to send something to their muslim friends and business associates. With the right marketing this could work.

Halal butchers under threat from superstores

Patterns do repeat themselves. With the fierce competition and low margins that the food retailng giants operate with, they are constantly on the lookout for new profit centres. That usually means taking business away from someone else. The traditional corner store has long been a favourite target of the supermarkets, but now those neighbourhood shops are also the Halal shops and butchers.

The big retailers are well aware that the Muslim consumer is doing most of their shopping in the supermarkets – but not buying their Halal meats and other items there. This is partly because of non-availability and partly an issue of trust. Now that the big guns are aiming at the Halal consumer, expect to see more and more Halal produce on their shelves.

And as for the High Street….?

Meat supplier in HMC U-turn

The integrity of Halal certifiers is being questioned worldwide. Not only by the consumer, but also by certifiers discrediting other certifiers. The fact that the wholesalers in this story had to submit to the consumers demands shows us that consumer awareness is what needs to be propogated. This is a proof of an emerging market force that is Halal consumer power that will play an important role in the coming years.

Subway franchises in UK continue the trend of going Halal with the Bolton branch, opening up the outlet to a wider market to include the Muslim customers. No figures are available yet as to the effect that going Halal has had on the bottom line, but in many other regions (Singapore is a good example), many of the fast food chains gained signifcant increase in revenue by going Halal.
