Aussie plan to push for halal standard rejected

The issue of developing international Halal standards continues to appear in all corners of the world. This issue was recently brought up in the Australian parliament, to use the Australian Government Muslim Slaughter (AGMS) programme as an international benchmark, but it was rejected.

We expect to see some further initiatives on international standards coming up under the OIC umbrella in the near future.

A GROUP of Victorian businesses are working with the Government
of Brunei to develop the world’s first global halal brand. This initiative is poised to be the first realistic cross-border collaboration that may actually go beyond the talking stage. The coming year will be critical, to get some results before the Brunei Halal Expo in August 2008.

and Livestock Australia (MLA) sponsored a program in which the
students from the Abu Dhabi Men’s College studied the MLA’s HALAL and meat safety programs, including Quality
Assurance, and export documentation for meat products that are exported
to the Middle East. Good bit of PR and marketing from the Aussies.
