Good response to Penang halal park

THE halal park in Bukit Minyak, Seberang Prai in Penang, has attracted good response with the first phase, which covers more than 11ha of the 53ha-park, almost all taken up. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the phase was nearly filled up by companies involved in niche and high-technology halal activities such as manufacturing bulk liquid packaging, biotech and organic products.

Bandar Seri Begawan, is being prepared by an international group of

Philippines Gov’t boosts Halal food export program

The government will strengthen its export development programs in 2010 to take advantage of the $1-billion Halal food market.

The programs would include advocacy, implementation of the
Philippine National Standard (PNS) and the Joint Administrative Order
(JAO) and the strengthening of the capabilities of the Halal National
Accreditation Board.

Deputy Commerce Minister Alongkorn Ponlaboot
has floated an idea of developing a new economic “verandah” by forging
closer ties between Thailand’s five southern provinces and Malaysia’s
five states.Thai government officials will meet with Malaysian counterparts to
discuss a new economic partnership in June next year, said Mr Alongkorn
after his three-day visit to Malaysia and three southernmost provinces

Sea Party to produce biotech products

KUCHING:
Taiwan’s Sea Party Technology Co Ltd, the first major investor to
operate in the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub in central Sarawak, will
undertake the farming of prawns, chickens and eggs, chlorella and other
aquaculture activities using biotechnology. The company, which
has committed some RM2bil in investment through six wholly-owned
subsidiaries, will also be involved in the manufacturing of biotech
feed meal, food processing as well as tilapia, marine fish and Japanese
eel farming.

Tanjung Manis Halal Hub gets EUR 400 mln investment

Taiwanese
firm Sea Party International Co Ltd (SPI) and its subsidiaries will
invest MYR 2 billion (EUR 400.1 million) in the Tanjung Manis Halal
Hub. SPI will spend MYR 318 million (EUR 63.6 million) for aquaculture
activities like breeding tilapia, growing chlorella and producing halal
collagen and gelatine in the first phase.
