Industry Players Competing For Slice Of Europe’s Halal Market

Industry players are now
competing to get a significant share of the halal industry market in
Europe which has a population of 51.2 million Muslims. “Everyone now wants a slice of the halal market,” said Dr Cedomir
Nestorovic, a professor at the ESSEC Business School Paris in France. According to him, halal is now regarded as a “big thing” in Europe and is no longer a taboo subject in the mainstream media.

KUALA
LUMPUR: Malaysia’s halal meat industry is not likely to take off in a
big way in the international market and the country would be better off
selling its non-meat halal products such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals
and Islamic financial services, says Oxford professor. The
country’s meat industry, apart from being hardly able to meet local
demand, also fell short of international quality standards, said Prof

THE HAGUE (Reuters) – The business of selling food that is halal,
or acceptable to Muslims, is set to grow rapidly in Europe in coming
years as more supermarket chains target the sector, a Nestle executive
said on Tuesday. Frits van Dijk, executive vice president at the world’s biggest
food group, told Reuters on the sidelines of the World Halal Forum in
The Hague he expected the halal food business in Europe to grow by 20
to 25 percent within the next decade.
