WHF 2009 To Be Held In May

The Fourth World Halal
Forum (WHF) will be held for two days, starting May 18, at the Kuala
Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) here. In announcing this, the WHF chairman Datuk Seri Sheikh Saleh
Abdullah Kamel said this year’s event, would present the efforts of
collaboration within the Islamic world to produce a set of standards
and specifications to uphold the quality and value of halal services. “The WHF 2009 stands to see the beginning of a long awaited
objective which is, a global halal standard, covering the entire value
chain,” Sheikh Saleh told a media briefing here today.

The International Islamic Fair 2008 (IIF2008), will be in Al-Mukalla,
Yemen and has been merged with the “Industry-Yemen’s Future” Conference
& Exhibition in what will be the biggest Malaysian commercial
delegation to the Republic. IIF organising chairperson Madam Sabariah Abdullh said: “The decision
to move the IIF2008 to Yemen comes as a blessing in disguise as we were
invited to merge with the planned Malaysian-Yemeni event. “We have be bringing our exhibitors to join the Malaysian business
delegation led by chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in

Dirs800m Worth of Halal Food Products Exported from Iran

Some dlrs 800 million worth of halal food products were exported
abroad from the Islamic Republic of Iran during March 2007-March 2008
period, an official said. Head of Iran’s Food Industries Union, Mohammad Hosseini, said
that over 150 companies are active in producing Halal food products
across the country. Hosseini also referred to the first International Halal Food Exhibition to be held in Tehran in February 2009.

BANGKOK, — The Islamic Bank of
Thailand (IBT) plans to lend 1.2 billion baht in 2009 to promote halal
food and product manufacturings while exploring sukuk or Islamic bonds
through “petro money” from Middle East investors. Its
chairman Professor Dr Somchai Virunhaphol said the fund for halal
manufacturers would then be doubled in two years as there are vast
potential to be tapped.

ABU DHABI, Nov 13 (Bernama) — The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and
other Middle East countries should emulate Malaysia in regulating halal
food production to prevent governments and consumers from being
defrauded, said an industry expert. Midamar Corporation director Jalel Aossey said countries like
Malaysia and Brunei had well established regulatory bodies to verify
products were halal-compliant and that protection levels were in place
in countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
