LPPOM MUI Director of Central Java Province, Prof. Dr.H. Muchoyyar HS, MA., Megungkapkan said that during the year 2011 there have been about 70 SME certification process is assisted by the agency in the region. Compared with the number of companies that have diserrtifikasi, according to Muchoyyar the figure is still relatively small. However, he remains optimistic that the future number of companies that are certified halal in Central Java will continue to increase.

This optimism is based on the fact that many companies voluntarily submit to the halal certification process of LPPOM MUI Central Java . They realize that the halal certification has been an added value for their products in order to compete in the market.

“Awareness of the Muslims to consume halal products continues to increase. So it stands to reason that the employers should also be targeting this market by providing halal products,” said Muchoyyar.

Muchoyyar also added that cooperation with several agencies is essential. He said that most SMEs find it difficult to meet the specified requirements and can not afford the financing aspect. Therefore, he expects other relevant agencies to participate in order to help finance the halal certification process for SMEs, so that they can compete in the consumer products market.
