Local Brunei SMEs to participate in MIHAS 2008

Several local SME entrepreneurs involved in the food processing industry will showcase their products at the
5th Malaysia International Halal Showcase 2008 (MIHAS 2008), which will be held from May 7 to 11 at the
Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

MIHAS 2008 themed “Bridging The Global Halal Market” will be the best platform to educate other Muslim or
foreign countries about the importance of halal certification, especially in promoting and marketing their halal
products.

It will feature over 400 international exhibitors from 23 countries that have confirmed their participation. This
year there will be 444 exhibitors and all the booths have been taken up, said Kamaruddin Hassan, Malaysia
External Trade Development Corp’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer in a news report recently.

This will be an opportunity for local companies to promote halal certification, business strategies and
networking in developing business ventures with other countries in the halal market and industries.

Several local companies when contacted by the Bulletin yesterday said they are expected to participate in
the event adding that their companies and bosses are currently taking part in an exhibition in Singapore on
halal products.

The halal certification has become Malaysia’s strength in promoting and marketing halal products as the
certification is recognised internationally. It has also been adopted by the United Nations, the report said.

Five key sectors will be featured at MIHAS 2008, which include food and beverages, pharmaceutical and
herbal products, cosmetics and healthcare, banking and finance, and food processing and packing
machinery.

There will be a trade briefing that feature speakers from Pakistan, Europe, India, Slovenia, Sudan, Turkey,
France, Iran and Kazakhstan.
