Malaysia: Malaysia To Enhance Cooperation With Kazakhstan

KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 (Bernama) — Malaysia and Kazakhstan agreed to further expand and deepen bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas, including trade and investment, human capital development, education and Islamic banking.

A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry here Friday night said both sides also agreed to enhance cooperation in halal food production, construction, transportation, tourism, agriculture and food security.

It said the decision was made during Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman’s official visit to Kazakhstan on May 18 and 19.

During the visit, Anifah held bilateral talks with his counterpart Yerzhan Kazykhanov and President Nursultan Nazarbayev, said the statement.

“The visit also has further broadened linkages and expanded cooperation between both countries in identified areas for mutual interest and benefit.”

It said that Nazarbayev also welcomed more Malaysian investors and entrepreneurs to participate actively in the economic development of Kazakhstan.

On regional issues, both foreign ministers discussed the upcoming Kazakhstan chairmanship of the OIC-Conference of Foreign Ministers (CFM) this June.

“In this regard, both sides agreed to enhance mutual support and cooperation to strengthen the role and effectiveness of the OIC-CFM in empowering the Islamic ummah,” it said.

The statement said both ministers also agreed on the importance of the upcoming official visit by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to Kazakhstan on June 5 and 6.

“The prime minister will also attend the 7th World Islamic Forum (WIEF) to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan from June 7 to 9, and the visit will provide further impetus to the development of closer and beneficial relations and cooperation between the two countries,” it said.
