On 19th January 2013 the Penang International Halal Conference, themed “Halal Tourism and Hospitality – Travel the World Muslim Style”, will be held at the Eastin Hotel, Penang.

Expected to attract some 200 local and foreign businessmen, hoteliers, travel agents, academics, hospitals and others, the conference will provide a comprehensive platform for the convergence of academic perspectives and business aspects of tourism for Muslim travellers.

Travelling has always been an important element of Muslim lifestyle, with the first Muslims being the most advanced traders in Arabia. Furthermore, Muslims are encouraged to travel to acquire knowledge. As Muslim consumers worldwide assert their unique needs, demand for Islamic finance and Halal food is growing the travel and hospitality services market at a rate which is expected to outpace that of other travel segments. The halal-friendly segment of travellers is already spending close to USD 100 billion a year, and projected to hit USD 200 billion by 2020. Hence, the Penang International Halal Expo & Conference is designed to educate participants on the economic perspectives of Islamic tourism and to create interest amongst travel agencies to develop Muslim travel packages.
