KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 (Bernama) — QSR Brands (M) Holdings Sdn Bhd will become the first in the world to offer a Diploma in Halal Management, once it receives approval from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) to carry out the education programme, said its General Manager Shariah and Halal Compliance Mohammad Roslan Saludin.
“We are now in the process of getting the green light from MQA.
“We have submitted the module and if there is no amendments, we will offer the programme as soon as possible at our wholly-owned college, KFCH International College,” he told Bernama on the sidelines of the recent Second Global Halal Trade and Logistics Summit on Saturday.
He said QSR Brands, being the largest restaurant chain operator in the region through its KFC, Pizza Hut and Ayamas restaurants, realised the importance of having staff who were well-versed about halal and its benefits.
QSR created the programme together with the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia.
Roslan said upon graduation, students would not only have the knowledge on syariah and training in the halal industry, but they will also know how to run the business systematically.
“They will also learn other subjects such as accounting and computing,” he said, adding that graduates of the programme could become halal executives.
He said the industry lacked people from the field, and, having the knowledge in halal management could give them an added advantage to those with such skills.
The chances of them being absorbed into the market is also high, the general manager added.
Meanwhile, Roslan said as all QSR Brand products are highly consumed by Muslims, it was crucial for them to provide halal food and skilled staff to handle the operations in a halal manner.
He said nowadays, even kids ask whether the food that they consume are halal.
The company currently operates almost 1,000 outlets in Malaysia with more than 26,000 employees and also has restaurants in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, and India.
