Malaysia to import rice, meat from Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Muhammad
Gondal has said that Malaysia will import rice and meat from Pakistan.

Addressing
a press conference with Malaysian Minister for Agriculture and
Agro-based Industry, Datuk Seri Noh Bin Haji Omar, Federal Minister for
Food and Agriculture Nazar Muhammad Gondal told that Pakistan and
Malaysia had agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of
agriculture, livestock and horticulture. A joint working group would be
establish to work in these fields, he added.

“Malaysia will import
0.15 million tonnes of rice from Pakistan, besides enhancing imports in
meat and orange. It would help Pakistan enhance the production of meat
and it would improve the packing and processing of orange for exporting
the commodity to Malaysia,” Gondal informed. He said Malaysia has a
demand of about 5,000 tonnes of Halal food and 80pc of its requirement
is being fulfilled from India.

The visiting minister said that
Pakistan and Malaysia could enhance cooperation in various fields
including agriculture. He said that Malaysia at present was interested
to enhance trade cooperation in livestock and agriculture fields,
adding both the countries had signed two Memoranda of Understanding in
that regard.
