Malaysia: World Halal Conference 2020 to focus on Halal Industry Embracing the new World Economy

PETALING JAYA : The 12th World Halal Conference 2020 (WHC2020) to be organized by Halal Development Corporation (HDC) on October 6 will discuss on the halal industry transiting to the New World Economy within the ‘new normal’ following the global pandemic.

“The coronavirus has reshaped the economic landscape where consumers had to adjust profoundly to new habits being formed during lockdowns and quarantines.  This will continue permanently, changing the consumer behaviour and lifestyle and people across the globe are striving to adapt to a new normal,” said HDC’s Hairol Ariffein Sahari, Chief Executive Officer.

The world has been in a new stage of transformation as consumer demand for hygiene, clean and safe products have soared following the pandemic.  And with the restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the virus, digital commerce has seen a boost as consumers migrate online to get their products and services.

“COVID-19 is a wake-up call for governments, businesses and society as a whole to have a plan to deal with disruptions, notably where the supply chain has been tested during pandemic, to ensure business continuity,” highlight Hairol.

Putting into perspective the evolving of the economic landscape, WHC2020 theme of “Halal Community Driving the New World Economy” will explore the changes that are happening, the transformation that are already in place and needs to put in place as well as exploring into the challenges and opportunities that had arise in the context of sustainable production and consumption.

HDC’s annual World Halal Conference is a global thought leadership platform that assembles the community of practice within the halal ecosystem.  One of the Government’s strategies to make the Malaysia as a global halal hub, it is a platform that brings together Head of Governments, academia and captains of industry to discuss efforts made to facilitate the robust growth of the global Halal Economy.

Hosted by Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry, WHC has become an established part of global halal calendar; the international networking of the halal community to explore the opportunities and challenges in the Halal economy.  The conference discusses the current and future state initiatives to chart the pathway and propel the industry to its next growth level.

The hybrid conference, combining virtual and physical event, will focus on a comprehensive discussion on the recalibration of the halal industry post pandemic addressing the various opportunities and challenges, from the government-to-government level, the industry level from the Captains of the Industry and the emerging market.  The panel discussion during the one-day conference are:

Halal industry growth trends are a key economic driver in many countries, with the global halal industry worth projected to be USD3 trillion in 2030.  HDC is setting a benchmark of USD100 billion export value for Malaysia’s products by 2030 by leveraging the agency’s four core products; training, consultancy, Halal Park and Halal Integrated Platform (HIP) to further tap the global halal market.
