Malaysia: World Halal Council to meet in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: The World Halal Council (WHC) will hold its mid-year Executive Committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur on April 5, to coincide with the 9th International Halal Showcase 2012 (MIHAS 2012).

The meeting will deliberate on important issues pertaining to machine slaughter, gelatine and cloned animals, sausage casings and mutual recognition among member organisations.

“WHC has chosen to hold the meeting in Kuala Lumpur due to Malaysia’s high involvement in developing the Halal industry.

“Malaysia is continuously promoting and developing the Halal industry domestically as well as abroad through its government and private sector initiatives,” the Council said in a statement, today.

The WHC is the most recognised umbrella body for Halal certifiers worldwide.

Established in 1999, the WHC has strong participation from 39 Halal certification authorities from five continents, whose main objectives are to establish an unified Halal standard and to safeguard the interest of Muslim consumers worldwide.
