Malaysia: World’s First Halal Certification Management System

Jakim-logoPUTRAJAYA, March 30 (Bernama) — The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and DagangHalal Bhd (DHB), a global halal e-commerce company, will introduce the Halal Certification Management System (HCMS), the first in the world, for Halal certification bodies worldwide. The HCMS, which is an addition to the present Halal Verification Engine, has tight security elements that would help speed up the process of halal certification while improving efficiency when tracking thousands of certificates.

Minister in the Prime Minister Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom will launch the HCMS at the International Halal Certification Bodies Convention at Putrajaya International Convention Centre tonight.

DHB Group Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Hazli Mohamed Hussain said one of the special features of the HCMS was a quick response code on the halal certificate that helps halal certification bodies verifiy the authenticity of the certificate.

He said the HSMS was an interactive system that was equipped with high level security features, allowing more than 70 global halal certification bodies to manage their own halal certification process.

“Global certification bodies handle a large number of certificates that sometimes can reach thousands of certificates at any one time from a single certification body.

“In this case, the HCMS system is capable of handling large-scale data transaction smoothly thereby improving efficiency and reducing productivity costs,” Mohamed Hazli told a press conference here today.

The latest system will meet the demand of the global halal trade which is increasing with its value reaching US$2.5 trillion by 2018 compared with US$1.7 trillion in 2012.

Meanwhile, Jakim Halal Hub Division Director Hakimah Mohd Yusof said so far six Halal certification bodies have registered for HCMS and Jakim expected more to register in the near future.

The registered bodies are Halal Accreditation Council Sri Lanka; Central Islamic Committee of Thailand; Halal Certification Agency Vietnam; Japan Halal Association; ARA Halal Development Services Centre and Shandong Islamic Association, both from China.
