Many Malay Entrepreneurs In Terengganu Without Halal Certificates

KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 23 (Bernama) — Many Malay entrepreneurs in Terengganu are still without halal certificates which has made it difficult for them to market foodstuff produced by them including in the local market.

Chairman of the State Committee for Rural, Entrepreneurs and Cooperatives Development, Datuk Mohamed Awang Tera said the situation was different for non Muslim entrepreneurs who took more care with the issue of halal logo and the current needs of the market.

Officiating a seminar here today on halal standards, he said exposure through such seminars would make the entrepreneurs more aware of market sensitivities especially among Muslims where there is a need to have halal logo.

The world’s halal market is valued at RM7 trillion while the population of Muslims worldwide amounts to more than 1.6 billion.

“They are everywhere, in Europe, Middle East, Far East and these are markets we can share, with the condition that we have the knowledge of the required halal standards,” he said.

Mohamed Awang also said that the Terengganu State Economic Development Corporation has constructed a building to house various factories producing halal food in Cendering with a budget of between RM5 million and RM6 million.

The building can house eight to 12 units of factories that produce halal food products like crackers and coconut water based products.
