DUBAI, Nov 12 (Bernama) — The Ministry of Entrepreneur and
Cooperative Development (MeCD) wants a trading centre set up here to
bring in more products manufactured by Bumiputera entrepreneurs in
Malaysia for distribution in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and beyond.

“There’s a need for the facility in Jebel Ali to increase the
number of products made by Bumiputera entrepreneurs. And I’ll tell
those in charge to do so,” said its secretary-general Datuk Musa
Muhamad.

He told Bernama this on the sidelines of the Halal World Expo currently underway in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.

According to Musa, the centre has been in operation for nearly 18
months and managed by the Bumiputera Manufacturers and Services
Industry Association of Malaysia and its local partner.

He said that besides Dubai, similar facilities had been set up in places like Dublin, Dhaka, Norway, China and London.

The ministry also has goods collection centres in several states
in Malaysia. The goods, which include halal products, are supplied by
small and medium industries.

The products received at the collection centres are sent to the trading centres for distribution to the respective markets.

“This is part of our effort to enhance our distributive trade.
We’re doing it in a structured mannner supported by all agencies under
the ministry,” said Musa.

Ten Malaysian companies and cooperatives are taking part in the
three-day exposition at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. It
ends on Thursday.
