The agglomeration – which is built around Yinchuan with
Shizuishan, Wuzhong and Zhongwei cities as well as other small towns on
its outskirts – serves as the region’s major agricultural and
industrial base.

Despite the global economic downturn Golden Riverside produces more
than 90percent of the region’s GDP. Forty-three percent of the
agglomeration’s area is urban, containing 57 percent of Ningxia’s
population.

“We are hoping to see in three years the population along the Yellow
Riverside reaching 4 million, accounting for 60 percent of the region,
and GDP surpassing 130 billion yuan ($103.64 billion),” said Wang.
