Pakistan and Malaysia are working to collaborate in Agri-Vet sectors

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan and Malaysia are working on a wide ranging
collaboration in Agriculture and Veterinary sectors including formation
of a Joint Working Group on meat, rice, orange and mango, providing
technical assistance in the import of genetic material and services of
veterinary experts and consultants to Malaysia and sharing Malaysian
experience in Establishment of Halal Food Certification System in
Pakistan.

This was stated by the High Commissioner of Pakistan Lt. General
(Retd) Tahir Mahmood Qazi after holding an extensive meeting with
Director General, Department of Veterinary Services of Malaysia, Dato
Dr. Abd Aziz, in Kuala Lumpur, says a message received here Monday.

The High Commissioner said that various understandings were
reached during the meeting  including support of the Government of
Malaysia to Pakistan in attaining Halal Meat Standardization and
Certification to meet international requirements, technical assistance
to the Government of Malaysia in the import of genetic materials
including live animals, animal semen and buffalo management and
private-to-private sector interaction for export of Nili-Ravi buffalo
& Sahiwal cattle to Malaysia.

Mr. Qazi said that the progress made on signing of  MOU  between
the Buffalo Research Institute and Department of Pakistan and 
Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) of Malaysia and conducting
Joint feasibility studies to develop an MOU for provision of services
of veterinary experts/ consultants on best management practices on
raising and breeding of Nili-Ravi buffaloes imported by Malaysia  were
also reviewed.

He said that that Pakistan also sought technical assistance from
the Government of Malaysia  for  development of cool chain for dairy,
meat and fisheries in Pakistan the High Commissioner said that both
sides agreed to increase collaboration between two countries in the
area of research and exchange of scientific knowledge through signing
of an MOU between the Malaysian Agriculture Research and Development
Institute (MARDI) and Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC).
Exchange of experts, researchers and students in various fields of
agriculture and livestock development, and technical cooperation in the
field of research and development including production of biologics and
veterinary pharmaceuticals were also agreed upon during the meeting,
the High Commissioner added.
