Saudi Arabia: Muslim World League gives update on halal certification work in Saudi Arabia

By Mohammed Al-Sulami – Arab News

JEDDAH: As the only body in Saudi Arabia authorized to issue halal certificates, the Muslim World League has given an update on its latest efforts, developments and projects in this area.

The MWL confirmed its continuing commitment to applying the highest standards, pointing out that it recently suspended several abattoirs and slaughter companies around the world for violating the rules of halal slaughter.

In addition, it was recently awarded the globally recognized ISO 9001 Quality Management System certificate. It is the only organization in the world to achieve this certification in the halal field.

The MWL is also in the process of finalizing the establishment of the largest legal center for halal in the world, as part of its headquarters in Makkah. The center’s functions include supervising slaughter and the production of halal goods, and issuing certificates, directly or through its offices and representatives abroad, according to the halal certification mechanism and international standards.

The center also issues certificates for selling halal goods, provides technical and Islamic consultancy services, introduces businesses to halal food, provides media, awareness and marketing consultations, and supports the production of halal food.

The MWL said it has earned the trust of exporters and importers of halal meat worldwide, thanks to its 30 years of experience in the field.

The league has organized several international halal conferences in meat-exporting countries and regions, such as Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Europe and Asia-Africa.

When issuing halal certificates, MWL adheres to regulations and standards set by the GCC Standardization Organization. It also relies on the views and fatwas of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy in Jeddah.
The Muslim World League is an International Islamic NGO concerned with Muslims’ affairs in general, and the religion of Islam in particular.

A royal decree gave the MWL sole responsibility for issuing halal certificates, in recognition of its international-relations expertise in coordinating and cooperating with local and international bodies, and having met Sharia requirements for producing, manufacturing and marketing halal products.
