Saudi Arabia: Sattam inaugurates halal food event in Riyadh

RIYADH: Riyadh Governor Prince Sattam opened an international conference on halal food in the capital here on Sunday. The Saudi Food and Drugs Authority organized the three-day conference focusing on monitoring halal food.

In his address, Executive President of SFDA Muhammad Al-Kanhal stressed the need to monitor imported food. The Kingdom imports food from more than 150 countries.

The participants, including 120 experts from abroad, will discuss 60 studies on various aspects of monitoring halal food in different sittings of the conference, he said.

Prince Sattam also opened an international exhibition on halal food on the sidelines of the conference, the Saudi Press Agency reported. More than 20 foreign companies are participating in the exhibition apart from Saudi participants.

Speakers at the opening included Chairman of the Supreme Judiciary Council Sheikh Saleh bin Humaid, Muhammad Saeed from South Africa and Muhyuddin Ahmad of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
