Singaporean Firms Eyeing Halal Frozen Food At MIHAS 2011

Singaporean firms, currently participating in the on-going 8th Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), are eyeing the import of halal frozen food market into the island state, says Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation Trade Commissioner for Singapore, Naim Abdul Rahman.

“There is growing interest from the republic with 18 companies, comprising quality buyers taking part in the event which began yesterday,” he told Bernama.

Among the companies taking part include Sing Long Foodstuff Trading Co. Pte Ltd, Sing Long Foodstuff Trading Co. Pte Ltd, Chuen Cheong Food Industries (S) Pte Ltd, Mohamed Mustafa & Samsudin Co Pte Ltd and TSL Marketing & Distributors (S) Pte Ltd and NTUC Fairprice Ltd.

MIHAS 2011, the largest congregation of halal industry players, is an annual trade fair which facilitates the sourcing and selling of quality halal consumables, products and services globally

A total of 401 companies from 32 countries are showcasing their halal products led by China, the largest participating country with 36 companies, followed by Indonesia and Singapore.

Last year, the annual global halal food trade was valued at US$500 billion, with Asia providing the best market for halal products with its over one billion Muslim population.
