South Africa: Halal Tourism Conference

imagesThe Durban Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in partnership with Durban Tourism, will be hosting South Africa’s 1st Halaal Tourism Conference at the Elangeni Hotel, Durban on 29 May 2013.

In 2011 Muslim tourists spent an estimated USD126 billion in various destinations across the globe.  This amount is expected to rise to USD192 billion by 2020.   The Tourism Committee of the Durban Chamber believes that the time is ripe for Durban and KZN to prepare for a share in this significant market.   This is the motivation for the Conference that has been planned

The Conference aims to inform local businesses on the impact of Halaal Tourism in the economy and its steady growth and what it could mean to Durban in attracting this niche market.  It will also highlight the ways in which both city and province need to prepare to make the destination attractive to the Muslim market by understanding its needs and expectations.

CRESCENTRATING of Singapore accredits tourism products which meet required standards of hospitality and its Director, Fazal Bahardeen, will address conference delegates on the global Halaal tourism market, its market trends and, particularly, give advice on how Durban may become one of the most sought-after Halaal tourism destinations in Africa.

Other speakers will include noted tourism expert Professor Melville Saayman of North West University and Baboo Dajee of Nestlé SA, a leading manufacturer of halaal foods and beverages.

The conference takes place at the Elangeni Hotel, a Crescent Rated venue, and the registration fee is R350,00 excl VAT.  Contact Sharmala Pillay on 031 335 1017 or email her at   pillays@durbanchamber.co.za to register.
