Spain: Halal Tourism Conference attracts hotel experts

Hotel experts from around the world are set to take to the stage at the first ever international halal tourism conference.

HTC-Final (2)Taking place in Granada, Spain on September 22-23, The Halal Tourism Conference 2014 will provide a platform to discuss the opportunities and challenges that halal tourism presents for the industry.

Speakers confirmed for the event include hotel experts Chris Nader, vice president development at Shaza Hotels, an affiliate of Kempinski Hotels, and Hani Lashin, group general manager at Al Jawhara Group of Hotels.

“Both Chris and Hani are renowned in their field and will bring an educated presence to the conference and knowledge forum and will perfectly complement our other speakers,” said Tasneem Mahmood, Director of conference organiser CM Media.

With a market capitalisation of US $140 billion in 2013 and increasing year-by-year, according to the organisers, halal tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors in the industry and accounted for almost 13% of global travel expenditures. This figure is expected to grow to US $192 billion in 2020.

The two-day event, which is being sponsored by Turkish Airlines, will host around 500 delegates and exhibitors from the Middle East, Far East and Europe including those currently active in halal tourism and countries looking for help to break into this sector.

As well as hotels, attendees will also include representatives from tourism boards, tour agencies, tour operators, restaurants, media and airlines.

It will feature seminars from industry experts, workshops, networking sessions and an exhibition, and the conference will also see the launch of the Muslim Travel Index Europe 2014, which uses travel research from residents from Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Malaysian residents.

The Travel Index Europe 2014 looks at the attitudes and behaviour of majority Muslim populations to tourism in the future and their experiences of countries they have already visited in Europe.
