Subway continues Halal roll-out in UK

Subway to go halal

THE sandwich chain Subway are to open halal stores in the Greater Manchester area.

The stores, in the city centre, Levenshulme, Cheetham Hill and
Rochdale, will serve exclusively halal meats. Pork products will be
banned in line with Muslim dietary rules.

Subway already have a successful halal store in Walthamstow, east London, an area where thousands of south Asian Muslims live..

Much of the meat products for Subway come from Ireland and the halal
meats will be certified by the Islamic Foundation of Ireland.

Subway operations director, Mark Bradley said: “The introduction of
halal meats shows a true commitment by the Subway chain to offering our
customers choice. We have worked diligently with our suppliers to
introduce a full range of certified Halal meats. We can now offer our
Muslim customers our full range of subs that are fresh, made-to-order
and just the way our customers like them.”

Said Subway developer Hamed Al-Naqeeb: “We know there is a very
strong demand for Subway stores that provide halal meats and  we are
very excited by this development. In the United States, there are halal
stores already open that are doing great business and are very popular.
The critical point about our stores is that they are very closely tied
into the local communities in which they operate – and it is important
that they reflect what each community needs.”

Across the UK and Ireland, the Subway chain plans to open over 1,000
new outlets over the next four years, creating 10,000 jobs with an
investment of over £100 million.
