Swiss Halal regulations will not be strengthened

halalA Swiss parliamentary commission has ruled against a call for halal meat importers in Switzerland to be obliged to declare that the animal was slaughtered according to the Muslim rite.

The current legislation was deemed to be good enough and instead supported a motion calling for greater punishment for people trading in endangered species and products derived from protected animals.

In Switzerland, ritual slaughter is prohibited and Muslim and Jewish communities must import halal and kosher meat.
