Tangerine Confectionery awarded Halal accreditation

Tangerine Confectionery, one of Europe’s leading sugar confectioners, has received a quality Halal Seal
of Approval for products within its Barratt, Mojo, Princess and
Taveners Proper Sweets ranges.

The HFA Seal of Approval
comprises a number of stringent checks by independent food
technologists and auditors. These assess every stage of food
production, from initial sourcing of ingredients to finished packaging.
They include reviewing the quality, purity and traceability of the
ingredients used, examining the content of product recipes, plus
investigating the cleanliness, hygiene and segregation methods of
production equipment and manufacture at factory sites.

As a result of this process, more than 150 products have been
approved, and all of Tangerine Confectionery’s eight UK production
sites have been approved for the production of Halal products.

Masood Khawaja, president of the Halal Food Authority, said: “We use
the term Halal to describe what is right, good and permissible –
essentially eating well, wisely and naturally. Having undertaken a
thorough review of Tangerine Confectionery’s products and sites to
verify the quality of their ingredients, recipes and factory
operations, we’re pleased to award our Seal of Approval to the company.”

Commenting on the endorsement, Gill Lanty, head of marketing at
Tangerine Confectionery, said: “Product quality is key to Tangerine. We
source the finest ingredients, have developed industry leading products
and employ the most stringent processes within our factories. We have
also worked hard to introduce natural colours and flavours, remove
hydrogenated fats and cut added salt across our ranges.

“Halal, and its focus on ingredient purity and traceability, product
content and production excellence, is fundamental to how Tangerine
makes sweets. We’re delighted that, further to a rigorous review of our
plants and products, the Halal Food Authority has awarded us Halal
status.”
