UAE: Forum to highlight Dubai as capital of Islamic economy

Dubai: While Dubai is all set to be a capital of the Islamic economy, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, or IACAD, in Dubai is to hold the Islamic Economy Fiqh forum on March 22-24.

The premier event is to be held under the auspices of Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, in collaboration with Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre, or DIEDC.

Dr Hamad Al Shaibani, director-general of the IACAD, said the forum is in support of the initiative launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish Dubai as a global capital of the Islamic economy.

“The forum promotes economic activities which are compatible with Islamic law in order to develop international and national economic projects.”

Al Shaibani, who also chairs the Organisation Committee of the forum, said the event is to shed light on 34 out of 49 researches accepted. “Distinguished experts and speakers will share knowledge, ideas, best practices and latest trends.”

Abdullah Mohammed Al Awar, CEO of the DIEDC, said the government of Dubai is aware that in its bid to achieve its target, becoming the global capital of the Islamic economy and leading the global market in Islamic economy’s solutions, new regulations, and new competitive and creative products, solutions and financial and non-financial services should be created with respect to Shariah.

“The forum has four key themes: legislation, featuring the Islamic economy foundations; application, featuring applied Islamic economy; analysis, featuring Islamic economy issues being analysed; and future, promoting Dubai’s strategy to become a capital of the Islamic economy and discussing studies and practices related to the Islamic economy.”

The academic panel of the forum has already stated research submission requirements to the IACAD website, and announced prizes for distinguished researches supporting Islamic economy law and Dubai’s strategy to become a capital of the Islamic economy.
