UAE: Islamic Economy Award judging panel

The Award will recognise leaders from the Islamic economy and celebrate established and emerging firms

GIES logoThe Higher Committee for the development of the Islamic Economy sector, the Dubai Government entity responsible for overseeing the execution of the “Dubai Capital of the Islamic Economy” and Thomson Reuters have announced the judging panel for the Islamic Economy Award.

The recently announced Award is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and directed by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.

Held in conjunction with the Global Islamic Economy Summit, which will take place on November 25-26, 2013 at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai, the Award will recognize leaders from the Islamic economy and celebrate established and emerging companies that have demonstrated significant business and social impact in compliance with the Islamic economic ethos.

The award covers 14 areas of the Islamic economy. A Lifetime Achievement Award will also be bestowed upon an individual who has been a significant pioneer of the Islamic economy.

Chaired by Hussain Al Qemzi, Chairman of Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation, the judging panel will include:

Tayeb Abdulrahman Al Rais, Secretary General, Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation;

Dr. Ahmed Al Janahi, Deputy CEO, Noor Islamic Bank;

Khalid Al Aboodi, CEO, Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector, Islamic Development Bank Group;

Farid Lutfi, Group Director, Dubai Holding;

Dr. Fatih Mehmet Gul, Founder and Executive Director, CSR Middle East;

Darhim Hashim, Executive Director, Azka Capital;

Shelina Janmohamed, Vice President, Ogilvy Noor;

Dr. Andreas P.J. Schotter, Professor of Global Strategy, Thunderbird School of Global Management, USA; and

Tariqullah Khan, Professor of Islamic Finance, Hamad bin Khalifa University.

“This inaugural award ceremony aims to recognize the emerging leaders of the Islamic economy sphere” said Al Qemzi.

Khalid Al Aboodi said, “Recognising great achievements is a very important step towards charting the path for the future of the Islamic economy.”
