Nestle has confirmed that it plans to invest “more than” US$120m to open a production facility in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

This is coming at a very strategic time with the new Halal regulations coming into place in the UAE, and a much closer monitoring of Halal certification of products on the horizon. Previously there was ‘an understanding’ between Middle Eastern countries on the Halal aspect of the products being traded between them, this will ensure that there is actual Halal labeling on them now which would be in line with their South East Asia operation.

“The new factory project in Dubai World Central is a US$120m investment and will create close to 400 jobs in the UAE,” a spokesperson for the company told just-food.

The facility will manufacture coffee and culinary products, the company said. It will serve Middle Eastern markets and is expected to be operational by 2017.
